It just requires a few small tools and some patience. I recommend you help your child and do it together especially if you are using a hammer. Also put on some safety glasses and do it outside. I also recommend putting the geode inside a sock to prevent losing any pieces or having them fly anywhere. Gently hit the middle until it breaks open.
